Yesterday, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy had himself an amazing Week 2 performance, leading his Wolverines to a 35-7 victory over the UNLV Rebels. After the game, UNLV coach Barry Odom (first year with the Rebels) had a lot of high praise for the potential Heisman Trophy-contending QB.

Michigan football quarterback earns major praise following win over UNLV

After yesterday’s Michigan football victory over the UNLV Rebels — the Wolverines’ second win in a row leading up to the Bowling Green game next weekend — here is what coach Barry Odom had to say about star quarterback JJ McCarthy.

“Unfortunately (JJ played), just like I thought (he would),” UNLV Rebels’ coach Barry Odom said after the 35-7 loss in Ann Arbor. “He’s (JJ McCarthy) a great player, and they’ve got a really good scheme around him. He made throws, he didn’t make mistakes, smart decisions, very effective quarterback play. He seems very comfortable in what they’re asking him to do and competes at a very high level.”

Barry Odom continues on the Wolverines as a whole

All said and done, the junior Michigan football quarterback threw for nearly 280 yards while completing 22 of his 25 passes — he also threw a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions.

Odom also had this to say about Michigan football after the game:

“Credit to Michigan and the roster that they’ve built,” Odom said. “Really, top to bottom, an impressive group. They’re built in a way that they play to their players’ strengths, and really, as you look at how the roster is built for them, they’ve got a really solid squad in every area of offense, defense, and kicking.”

Next weekend, Michigan football will host the Bowling Green Falcons at the Big House for a night game — the Wolverines’ first game under the lights this year. For Week 3, offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore will be calling the shots, as Jim Harbaugh will not return from suspension until the following weekend for the Big Ten opener against Rutgers.
