Michigan football kicked off another weekend of official visitors in the 2025 class on Friday and the Wolverines even got some good news as a top-100 commitment who visited two weeks ago, Kainoa Winston announced his commitment to U-M over Penn State, Oregon, North Carolina, and others.
That was a positive start to the weekend but there was some negative news as one of the scheduled official visitors for Michigan football — Quincy Porter, a top-100 wideout — committed to Ohio State and canceled his trip to Ann Arbor.
Ohio State fans acted like that put a damper on Winston, who is the second top-100 commitment of the 2025 class for the Wolverines. But nothing could be farther from the truth. There was some hope of landing Porter, but that was always going to be a tough pull.
It’s disappointing that Porter didn’t make it to campus but Winston committed before his visits to North Carolina and Oregon. That’s just how it works sometimes.
Michigan football still has some top targets on campus and five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola is the headliner. Babalola is from Kansas, just like Sherrone Moore, and as of right now, Stanford is the leader according to the On3 prediction machine.
Michigan is right there from an academic perspective but U-M also offers an elite football program — something Stanford can’t say. Michigan is also known as O-line U to a lot of recruits. So while I’m not overly optimistic, I do see a path for the Wolverines to grab the lead with Babalola.
Other visitors to know about for Michigan football
Jasper Parker is a three-star running back who has been on the radar for a while. This weekend could be telling about where he stands on the board.
Michigan missed on Quincy Porter, but Shaun Terry, a former Notre Dame commitment, is also visiting, along with Phillip Wright, a three-star wideout that the Wolverines are battling Georgia for in the 2025 class.
Shamari Earls, the South Carolina commitment is also on campus for an unofficial visit. This will be his first trip to campus and a chance to get Michigan in contention for an official visit in the fall.
Outside of the wideouts though and Earls, my focus will be on Babalola and a recruitment that still feels winnable.
