Rod Moore was expected to be one of the best players on the 2024 Michigan football team. That was before he suffered a torn ACL this spring.

Guys recover much quicker from these injuries than they used to, but the first thought was that Moore would be sidelined for the entire 2024 season.

However, you are starting to wonder if there’s a slight chance he could see the field. It would be later in the year but Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore, speaking to reporters at a satellite camp on Thursday, said that the star safety “is ahead of schedule.”

“We’ll see. He’s doing great though,” Sherrone Moore said if Rod Moore would be back for the season. “He’s doing great and his recovery is ahead of schedule. We’re just super excited it went the way it went, we can handle it and super excited for him. And we’ll see what happens.”

Moore decided to return to Michigan football for another season, but would have easily been a day-two pick in the 2024 draft, just like he will be in 2025. The upside is huge for this kid, who signed with Michigan as a three-star recruit from the state of Ohio.

Moore has 142 tackles in three seasons plus seven pass breakups and six interceptions. The interception to clinch a win over Ohio State is the most well-known play of Moore’s career, but he’s been off the charts. He was poised to be First-Team All-Big Ten.

I would take him over any safety in the entire Big Ten including Caleb Downs. That’s how good Rod Moore is, when healthy. I don’t know if we’ll see him at all in 2024, but it would be a bummer if we didn’t get to see Moore don the Maize and Blue again.
