Last night, ex-Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions officially resigned his post with the Wolverines after the Big Ten met with the University of Michigan’s leadership and presented what many believe to be strong evidence against the Wolverines. Still, despite the investigation and sign-stealing allegations, a new report from Michigan author John U. Bacon states that the school is still moving forward with a new Jim Harbaugh contract amid the uncertainty surrounding what comes next for the program.
Michigan football still moving forward with Jim Harbaugh contract, per report
Michigan football will face the Purdue Boilermakers tonight in its second-to-last home game of the 2023 regular season. The Wolverines face Penn State and Maryland on the road in Weeks 11 and 12 before returning to Ann Arbor to host the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 13.
Regardless of the coming matchups, as well as Michigan football having a chance to improve to 9-0 on the year this evening, the games are the least of what is on the fans’ minds. Rather, Jim Harbaugh and his status as the Wolverines’ head coach — as well as the sign-stealing scandal and investigation — remains the leading headline when it comes to U-M athletics.
Yesterday, the Big Ten and Michigan leadership met to discuss what is happening and potential punishments. Right now, no one knows much, though it sounds like the investigation has uncovered more than people previously thought.
Connor Stalions, the former staffer who was reportedly at the heart of the investigation and sign-stealing scheme, resigned from his post with Michigan football last night, and while Jim Harbaugh is not suspended, many speculate that the Big Ten will make a push for some type of punishment — such as potentially suspending Harbaugh — sometime soon. Again, that is just speculation.
Regardless, John U. Bacon dropped another Michigan football bombshell on Twitter this morning, reporting that the school is still working on a new Jim Harbaugh contract amid all of the outside noise.
The Wolverines will face Purdue at 7:30 PM (ET) this evening at the Big House. Blue by Ninety will continue covering all things Michigan football and more, so stay tuned.
