The Michigan football program is currently embroiled in a battle concerning NCAA suspension discussions, anticipated to extend into 2024 and potentially beyond. Over the weekend, reports emerged that Sherrone Moore was slated to serve a one-game suspension (self-imposed by the University of Michigan) during the Wolverines’ matchup against ECU this weekend. Today, the NCAA has accepted Michigan’s decision regarding Moore’s punishment, thus resolving the matter. However, uncertainties remain regarding the consequences for Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

Michigan football comes to terms with NCAA suspension, Sherrone Moore to serve one game during 2023 season

Jim Harbaugh is set to be suspended for three games during the 2023 Michigan football season: East Carolina, UNLV, and Bowling Green. These matchups comprise the entirety of the Wolverines’ non-conference schedule this year. Additionally, offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore will also face a one-game suspension, which the university instituted over the weekend.

According to a report by Austin Meek of The Athletic, Michigan football and the NCAA have reached an agreement regarding Moore’s penalty. Sherrone Moore will be absent from the Wolverines’ Week 1 game against East Carolina this weekend, thereby concluding the matter.

Sherrone Moore is scheduled to return to the sidelines during Week 2 when the Wolverines host UNLV. Furthermore, Moore will act as the interim head coach during Week 3, which is the final week of Jim Harbaugh’s suspension, before resuming his regular duties as Michigan’s offensive coordinator. He recently took on this role exclusively, having previously shared it with Matt Weiss last year.

Although Sherrone Moore’s situation has been resolved, Jim Harbaugh still faces the possibility of an NCAA suspension. The infractions committee will convene to assess whether further penalties are warranted.
