Rod Moore is a Michigan football legend. His status has already been cemented after three incredible seasons with the Wolverines and some clutch plays against Ohio State.
The Ohio native will be remembered forever for his interception in the Michigan football win over Ohio State last November. He is also supposed to be an essential part of the Wolverines defense this season, but rumors are swirling that Moore has suffered a season-ending injury.
Not only has the rumor made its way to social media, but it’s one we have heard as well but haven’t confirmed. Usually, with these kinds of things, when there’s smoke, there’s fire.
What a Rod Moore injury would mean for Michigan football
We were wrong about Dusty May going to Louisville on Saturday (got Woj bombed) so maybe, we’ll be wrong about this. I’d love that because the last thing I wanted to hear was that Rod Moore tore his ACL, which would mean that he’s going to be out, probably for the entire 2024 season.
That puts his future in doubt too. He was going to go to the NFL after this season. Moore decided to forgo the NFL draft for a senior season at Michigan. There’s still a chance for him to enter the draft, but his stock would take a hit.
It would also be a major loss for the Michigan football secondary. According to MGoBlue, as a junior Moore appeared in 12 games with 11 starts in the secondary; made 38 tackles including 1.0 for loss with two interceptions. The two-time All-Big Ten selection was going to have a key role this season. There was even chatter about him playing some in the slot as Mike Sainristil did the past two seasons.
That’s out the window now if the injury is what we all fear. Quentin Johnson and Makari Paige are solid. Zeke Berry and Brandyn Hillman offer nice depth options too, but Moore is one of the best safeties in all of college football. There’s no minimizing the loss and for now, all we can do is hope the rumors aren’t true.
Update: The injury has been confirmed.
