Sherrone Moore on QB Production in MSU Game: ‘It Was Awesome’

The Michigan offense effectively deployed a two-quarterback system

Michigan quarterback Davis Warren (16) makes a pass against Michigan State during the first half at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.

Michigan football started Davis Warren at quarterback against the Spartans as Jack Tuttle sat out with an injury. Michigan’s leading rusher ended up being Alex Orji (64 yards), as he saw some designed runs and executed them perfectly. Warren held up his end of the bargain by making throws when he needed to and not turning the ball over

Sherrone Moore Comments on QBs

Head coach Sherrone Moore said in his weekly Monday press conference that he enjoyed watching the quarterbacks come alive under the lights.

“It was awesome. It was what you hoped it would be,” Moore said. “You wish it would start a little faster, but both of those guys work well in tandem together. You see that in practice, you see them walk around the building and that’s just how they are, and they really feed off each other. It was cool to watch that come to fruition and not just see it in practice, but see it in a game.”

Warren seemed to take a step forward, and he almost hit every open receiver he had against MSU. Having strong pass protection is key, and the Wolverines had it in abundance as they allowed zero sacks. Moore said it helped to be closer to full strength.

“Having Myles (Hinton) back, he’s a tone setter, obviously – he’s a big human being with an immense skill set,” Moore said. “As a group, those guys played well together (with) synergy in pass pro. But that also comes with timing in the passing game. I thought the precision in the route timing was good. I thought Davis did a really good job when he was asked to do that – (he) missed a couple throws and he’s beating himself up over it, but (he) played good enough for us to win and made some really good throws.”

Will Johnson Injury Update

Cornerback Will Johnson left the Illinois game with a lower body injury, and he ultimately sat out for the MSU tilt. Moore said it’s just a matter of when Johnson comes back, not if

“Oh yeah, for sure this season,” Moore said. “We’ll see how it works out this week and what he can do, so we’ll just let the doctors handle that. Will has no plan of just shutting it down or anything like that.”
