The Wolverines are expected to bring someone in to compete

Michigan football could be one of the top destinations for transfers over the next few weeks. The Wolverines found their QB of the future in 2025 No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood, but the starting job won’t merely be given to him. Instead, the maize and blue plan to bring in a veteran to compete with the freshman phenom.

Sherrone Moore on Transfer Quarterbacks

Head coach Sherrone Moore spoke to the media on Wednesday and broke down what he’s looking for.

“There’s a lot of positions that we’re adding depth (to) and adding spots to help fill,” Moore said. “The specifics of that, I guess you guys will have to see, but we’re definitely looking for a quarterback in the portal, and we’ll go from there.”

It’ll be a unique situation for whichever quarterback decides to put on the winged helmet. They’ll have to compete with likely the best freshman in the country, and the Wolverines have yet to hire a new offensive coordinator. Moore said he will look for a player with traits specific to the Michigan culture.

“Experience. A guy that is going to be a great leader and teammate, obviously has the ability to play,” Moore said. “Got to be a great fit. That’s going to be the number one piece.”
