Cade McNamara decided to transfer to the Iowa Hawkeyes after JJ McCarthy took over as the Wolverines’ starting QB in 2022. For McNamara, who won the Big Ten with the Maize and Blue in 2021, he now looks to turn a new program around. According to Blake Corum, he has full faith in his former QB1 turned notable Michigan football transfer portal loss, to get the job done in Iowa City.

In 2021, Cade McNamara led Michigan football to an astonishing 42-3 victory against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten title game, vaulting the Wolverines to their first College Football Playoff appearance in program history. While JJ McCarthy led Michigan to another impressive season, winning the Big Ten and making the CFP once again, McNamara will long be remembered as Michigan’s first title-winning QB in decades.

For his new team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, this is great news — Iowa needs all the help that it can get, especially on offense. On Thursday — Big Ten Media Day — star running back Blake Corum had a chance to comment on his former Michigan football teammate, and he had a lot of good things to say.

“He’s a great leader and a great, great human being,” Corum said of McNamara during Big Ten Media Day on Thursday, per 247 Sports.

“He’s a general at the quarterback position. He’s going to lead Iowa and they are going to win some games. They might turn that thing around from last year,” Corum said when he was asked about Cade McNamara taking over the Hawkeyes’ offense.

“He and Erick got the connection. Great players, great teammates and they should do some big things. I’m rooting for the best. Hopefully, we both have wonderful seasons and we can meet each other (at Lucas Oil Stadium),” Corum finished with.

Coincidentally, if Blake Corum and his former Michigan football teammate, Cade McNamara, both have incredible seasons, the Wolverines and Hawkeyes may end up squaring off in this year’s Big Ten title game, just as they did in 2021 when McNamara led Michigan to a blowout victory.
