The writing has been on the wall for nearly a full month now. Four-star twin brothers Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith, formerly committed to Michigan football, have officially flipped to the Kentucky Wildcats. The announcement came late Friday evening, leaving the Wolverines’ class of 2024 with 25 hard commitments remaining.

The rumors first started up in the middle of August, as the commitment of four-star twin brothers Jacob Smith and Jerod Smith began to waiver.

It was a widely held belief that the two would ultimately end up at the same school, and for some time, it looked like that program would be the Wolverines.

Jerod Smith had been committed to Michigan football since April, while his brother joined him in early July. Now, however, they’ve decided that home is elsewhere, flipping their commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats.

The pair are both stud defensive linemen in the class of 2024, each rating as a four-star. According to 247 Sports, Jerod is slightly higher ranked, at No. 141, while his brother sits at No. 234.

There’s little doubt that this is a tough loss for the Wolverines’ class of 2024. Still, with 25 commitments remaining, the group as a whole is in excellent standing and should finish near the top of the country regardless.
