It wasn’t long ago that fans of Michigan football rivals were mocking the Wolverines for their recruiting ranking. Now, after two commitments on back-to-back days, Michigan has surged up 24 spots in two days.

At the start of the weekend, Michigan football ranked 39th in the 2025 team recruiting rankings according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. But after landing four-star running back Donovan Johnson, as well as three-star offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn, the Wolverines jumped up 10 spots to 29th overall.

Yet, after looking at Sherrone Moore’s Twitter account and his posts, it was clear at least one more commitment was coming Monday. As it turns out there were two.

Thoughts on new Michigan commitments

Jacob Washington, a four-star wideout from Louisiana was the first to announce. He’s ranked 320th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and he reminds me of Cornelius Johnson. Washington is that big receiver Michigan football has been looking for on the outside.

However, Chase Taylor, a three-star linebacker joined the 2025 class soon after. He’s ranked No. 583 overall and is out of Stockbridge, Georgia. Taylor is a guy who can play all three linebacker spots and could even see time at nickel. He’s 6-foot-3, 201 pounds, and he was even compared to NFL safety Isaiah Simmons.

In short, Taylor is versatile and can do a lot of different things. He’s solid in coverage and had nine sacks over the past two seasons, as well as over 140 tackles.

Taylor’s commitment, along with Washington, moved the Wolverines into the top 15 of the 2025 team rankings, and if U-M closes on its other targets — just the recruits it is trending with — Michigan football will move into the top 10 if not the top five.
