Michigan men’s basketball (12-3, 4-0 Big Ten) knocked off No. 22 UCLA (11-4, 2-2 Big Ten) 94-75 Tuesday night. It marked the fourth straight win for the Wolverines and the first time they beat the Bruins on the road since 2002. The maize and blue got career-highs from Vlad Goldin (36) and Tre Donaldson (20) in the victory.

Michigan led by as much as 18 in the first half, but UCLA fought back before halftime to make it 47-37 at the break. The Bruins came out of the locker room and went on an 18-4 run over six minutes to grab their first lead of the game. Not long after, Goldin and Danny Wolf found themselves in foul trouble. With their seven footers on the bench, Donaldson and Nimari Burnett helped the Wolverines take back the lead for good.

Burnett played 37 minutes and tallied 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Donaldson’s career night came on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and a clip of 6-for-10 from behind the arc. He also posted a game-high seven assists. As a team, Michigan shot 61.5 percent from the field and 53.6 percent from deep.

Goldin’s Big Game

Goldin scored 17 of his team’s first 28 points, and he didn’t slow down much from thereon. He also made a three-pointer in the first half. Before Goldin’s time in the maize and blue, he had never attempted a deep-range shot in his college career. This season he’s 3-for-4 (1-for-2 Tuesday).

The seven footer also accounted for seven rebounds, two assists and one block. Not only did Goldin dominate the first half, but he also had eight points in the final four minutes to help close out the game. He shot 13-of-18 from the field and made 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Goldin has arrived and seems to be capable of being the most dominant big-man in the country.

Goldin’s 36 points is the most by a Wolverine since Daniel Horton had 39 against Illinois in 2006. After the game he spoke with NBC Sports’ broadcasting crew, which included fab-five member Jalen Rose, about his approach.

“That’s something that I take pride of; being one of the most efficient players in the country,” Goldin said. “A lot of people can score 30 (or) 40 points if they shoot 40 (or) 50 times. I’m trying to do it as efficient as possible.”

The Wolverines finished their trip to Los Angeles on a high note and are set to host Washington next on Jan. 12.
