Michigan football finds itself at .500 (5-5) with just two games left on its schedule. Over the past decade or so, it’s become increasingly common for top NFL prospects to opt out of end-of-season games. Just last season, Heisman winning quarterback Jayden Daniels sat out of the ReliaQuest Bowl, and Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. sat out of the Cotton Bowl.

Will NFL-Bound Wolverines Sit Out?

Michigan has four players projected as first round picks in April: cornerback Will Johnson, defensive tackles Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, and tight end Colston Loveland. Loveland spoke to the media on Tuesday and said it all depends on how he feels.

“I mean, we’re going to play,” Loveland said. “As long as we’re healthy and feel good we’re going to play. Michigan’s done so much for us. All of our boys, our brothers, our family, our coaches – they’re all still coaching and playing, so why wouldn’t we play? We got goals to reach as a team, and individually as well, so as long as I’m healthy, I’m playing.”

As far as playing in a bowl game, Loveland sang a different tune.

“That may be a different story, but I mean as long as I feel good (in the) regular season, I’ll keep playing for sure.”

Following the bye week, the Wolverines close out the regular season against Northwestern and Ohio State respectively.
