WR target of Michigan football gets Penn State crystal ball

Michigan football seems to be fading in another recruitment as Taz Williams has received a crystal ball projection for Penn State.

Michigan football has missed out on a few blue-chip targets in the 2025 class recently. Of course, you’re never going to hit on all your recruiting targets but there have been a few that were trending to Michigan before committing somewhere else in the end.

There can be different reasons for that. We don’t always get the full picture in a recruitment but it’s happening again with four-star wideout Taz Williams. The 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver out of Red Oaks, Texas, was viewed as a Michigan lean after receiving some expert projections.

Latest on wide receiver recruiting

Williams is ranked No. 275 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and 37th among wide receivers. Yet, the Wolverines already have a wide receiver committed and are the projected leader for two others — Phillip Wright and Andrew Marsh.

Wright is set to decide on July 11th. Williams is announcing his commitment on July 13th and Penn State has grabbed the momentum with a new crystal ball in the Nittany Lions’ favor. Michigan is still leading according to the On3 prediction machine but I don’t think that’s going to hold.

If the Wolverines land Wright, Marsh, and add them to the commitment of four-star wideout Jacob Washington, that might be enough for the 2025 class. Penn State hosted Williams for the most recent visit and the Nittany Lions have the momentum.

A decision date is coming July 13th. Missing out on Williams won’t be the end of the world, but it does put more pressure on Michigan football to make sure it can close with Marsh, a top-100 overall prospect in 2025, and Wright, an underrated three-star recruit with Georgia in his final top three.
