After winning the Big Ten title in consecutive years and making College Football Playoff runs both times, the Wolverines had some reloading to do heading into the 2023 season. Between Jim Harbaugh’s use of the transfer portal and his new freshman class, here are three new Michigan football additions that are bound to see a major role on the Wolverines’ roster this fall.

Drake Nugent: Michigan football is going to rely heavily on its offensive line this fall, just as it has done in years past. For the Wolverines, replacing former All-American center Olu Oluwatimi, the most decorated lineman in program history, will be no small task; that said, Michigan appears to have a perfect replacement in mind. Former Stanford center Drake Nugent, a preseason first-team All-Big Ten selection, brings talent and experience to Ann Arbor and is poised to lead Michigan’s elite offensive line this year.

Benjamin Hall: Benjamin Hall, a freshman running back for Michigan football, is also bound to earn a large role for the Wolverines this fall. While Michigan’s impressive running back room — which is ranked as the best in the nation — will be led by senior Blake Corum and junior Donovan Edwards, the Maize and Blue have Ben Hall waiting in the wings, poised for a breakout year. His bruising style makes him a perfect and unique addition to the Wolverines’ RB room and should earn him a prominent role for the Michigan football offense, as seen during the spring game in April.

Ernest Hausmann: This new Michigan football linebacker, Ernest Hausmann, is arguably the Wolverines’ top transfer portal addition and should see a ton of reps this fall. Michigan’s linebacker room has been ranked as one of the best in the nation, breaking the top 5 according to Phil Steele, and will need both Hausmann and Junior Colson to stand out among the best in the Big Ten. As a freshman, Hausmann stood out as an impact freshman addition for Nebraska — heading into his second year of college football, the Wolverines need him to take the next step and become a bona fide All-Big Ten selection.
