Tomorrow, Michigan football vs. UNLV will kick off at 3:30 PM (EST) at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI. For the Wolverines, who dominated ECU a week ago for the season-opener, there are a number of things that need to be cleaned up before starting Big Ten play at the end of the month. From JJ McCarthy to Donovan Edwards and the defensive line, here are four things that we need to see from Michigan tomorrow afternoon.

4 things we need to see from Michigan football vs. UNLV this weekend

1 — JJ McCarthy and the passing attack continue to shine

In Week 1, JJ McCarthy and the Wolverines’ passing attack shined bright, leading to a record-breaking performance for the junior Wolverine. This weekend, with major recruits and national analysts all locked in on McCarthy and the offense, it’s essential that the passing game continues to thrive. If McCarthy is to stay in tune when Big Ten play hits, getting him warmed up against lesser teams like UNLV is essential.

2 — Donovan Edwards and the rushing attack improve

Last weekend, the offense only managed to put up 30 points against ECU, which was less than impressive, but it was only Week 1. This weekend, Donovan Edwards and the rushing attack need to get things rolling again against UNLV. Blake Corum had a quiet performance as well, though still managed to punch in a touchdown; with adjustments made throughout the week, we want to see more from Michigan’s ground attack.

3 — Get a sack

Last weekend, the Michigan football defensive line recorded zero sacks, which is uncharacteristic for a Michigan D-line. Since Jim Harbaugh arrived in Ann Arbor, the edge rushers have been a focal point on the game plan; this weekend, expect the pass rush to get home at least once or twice.

4 — Figure out the kicking game

Michigan football has been spoiled with an elite kicker for a few years now; however, things remain uncertain after an up-and-down start to the year for transfer kicker James Turner. Turner missed an extra point and a field goal against East Carolina, yet drilled a 50-yarder — there is still a question mark at kicker right now, but we are optimistic. After all, it appears to be a matter of consistency, not ability, which is a very fixable issue to have.
