Michigan basketball alum Duncan Robinson fastest to NBA milestone

Even though he wasn’t drafted, former Michigan basketball player Duncan Robinson has had one hell of an NBA career establishing himself as one of the best shooters in the league.

Robinson has played the last six seasons with the Miami Heat and has become a key part of their rotation. He helped Miami reach the NBA Finals in 2020. He also one of the rare players to have played in the NBA Finals, the Final Four, and the National Championship game.

Robinson has also played in the D-III national championship game which is how John Beilein, the former Michigan basketball coach was able to discover him. He won the Sixth Man of the Year award in the Big Ten at the end of the 2017-18 season, but really found his confidence in Miami.

The Michigan basketball standout has always been able to shoot the ball. Yet, Robinson has taken his game to a whole different level in the NBA, and on Monday night, he became the fastest NBA player to reach 1,000 3-point field goals. 

Duncan is a high-volume shooter and he’s excelled. Robinson is shooting 40 percent for his career and averages 2.9 3-pointers per game. After seeing his playing time cut a bit last season, Robinson is averaging 14.3 points per game for Miami this season and shooting 40.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Miami is 37-31 overall this season and should be a playoff team again. Robinson is a big part of that and his milestone is a reminder that the former Michigan basketball standout is one of the best shooters in the modern game. Period.
