What departure of Karmello English means for Michigan football 

A former four-star wide receiver from SEC country, Karmello English, is no longer part of the Michigan football program.

There’s never a dull moment in the world of Michigan football and that held true on Saturday as former four-star recruit Karmello English, a wide receiver, is no longer part of the team.

English a four-star signee in the 2023 class from Alabama, is no longer listed on the Michigan football roster. Josh Henschke of Rivals confirmed that he’s no longer part of the team, which is a blow.

Thoughts on Michigan football WR depth chart without Karmello English

English played in six games last season for the Wolverines. He caught one pass for four yards and hauled in a touchdown against Indiana. It’s not clear if English has entered the transfer portal or something else happened, but for Michigan football, it means the same thing.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound wideout was expected to have a much larger role this season. Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson are off to the NFL. Semaj Morgan, Tyler Morris, and Frederick Moore are some of the top guys on the depth chart, but English was supposed to be in that mix.

If there is one position on offense where a transfer addition is needed for Michigan football, outside of quarterback, it would be wide receiver. There are some capable players on the roster. But a veteran with size, like Johnson, in the 6-foot-3 range would be ideal. That’s not easy to find in the spring portal though.

English wasn’t a guaranteed starter, but he was supposed to be in the mix. It’s a bummer that he won’t be and my guess is that he’ll wind up back in SEC country on a different college football roster.
