Michigan lands Ferris State OL transfer Lawrence Hattar

The Wolverines added another piece to their offensive line

Michigan football strengthened its offensive line on Sunday with the commitment of Ferris State’s Lawrence Hattar. The Division-II Bulldogs have three national championships in the last four years. Hattar has one year of eligibility left.

The 6-foot-5, 335 pound Livonia, Mich., native chose the Wolverines over Kansas State, Pittsburgh and North Carolina among others. Hattar was a D2Football first team All-American in 2024 playing left guard. 

Hattar is the second offensive lineman to join the Wolverines in the transfer portal. Cal Poly’s Brady Norton committed to Michigan in December, and he has three seasons of eligibility left. Head coach Sherrone Moore also made an addition to the staff in regards to the offensive line, as veteran coach Juan Castillo is set to make a return.

The Wolverines were without three usual starters on the offensive line at the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday, and it gave certain players an opportunity to show they belong. Moore said there’s work to be done, but it was good enough.

“Well, when you rush for over 100 yards against Alabama, it’s good, but I haven’t watched — I saw some of it and felt like in protection, because those are things that you can see the most without the detail, they did pretty good,” Moore said after the bowl game. “As far as the run game, there’s things we’ve always got to clean up, but it felt like we were getting the movement necessary to get the runs going.

“When you have those type of drives when you’re leaning on people and you’re getting five-minute drives, it means those guys up front are doing a good job. Felt like they were in a good place.”
