Senior linebacker Ernest Hausmann is not only a leader and playmaker on the field, but exemplifies those qualities off the field just as well. He has recently accepted an invitation for partnership with One Million Wells, a nonprofit dedicated to providing clean drinking water for communities across the globe.
Hausmann was born in Uganda, and did not move to the US until the age of five. In March of this year, he returned to Uganda, 16 years later, to help spread the impact of One Million Wells in a community that was near and dear to his heart, completing a mission that resonated with him on a much deeper level.
Hausmann had the experience of a lifetime helping communities in Uganda
Hausmann expressed via Instagram, “I was blessed with the opportunity to help train 4 African teams while also providing an impoverished community with life-sustaining, clean drinking water.” Included in his post is a video of Hausmann drilling a well into the ground of a village in Uganda, putting in the work on the ground.
He went on to say, “The joy on their faces was indescribable—a moment I will never forget.” Hausmann was able to capture that joy with videos and photos of some of the children in the village, using the clean water from the well that he had just helped create for them, and the joy in his own face was just as prominent.
Beyond the work he did in the villages themselves, Hausmann’s partnership with the nonprofit ensures that his advocacy and impact will last far beyond just one trip. A Michigan Man through and through, Ernest Hausmann is the type of impact player who will be making waves both on and off the football field for years to come.
