Last year was an interesting year for the College Football Playoff — two Big Ten teams were featured, though both fell short. This year, both Michigan Wolverines football and the Ohio State Buckeyes will be looking to return to the playoff, setting up what could be the most insane national title matchup in the history of college football.

Michigan Wolverines football vs. Ohio State in the College Football Playoff

Michigan Wolverines football has appeared in back-to-back College Football Playoffs, yet remains without even a lead in CFP games. For the Wolverines, the 2023-24 season appears to be Jim Harbaugh’s best shot at winning a national title. This is his best roster yet, and the schedule appears favorable for Michigan.

Last year, Ohio State and Michigan football both appeared in the CFP, but they remained winless. Nevertheless, it was a monumental move for the Big Ten conference. When it comes to this year’s CFP, three Big Ten teams appear to have a shot: Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State.

While all three of these schools will face off against one another in the regular season, this year could see something that nearly every single college football fan wants to experience — a Michigan vs. Ohio State national title game.

Both the Wolverines and Buckeyes appear poised for a massive postseason run, and with the precedent now set that both can appear in the CFP, it is within the realm of possibility for these two Big Ten giants to face off in the playoff, more accurately, they would play in the national title game.

A Michigan-Ohio State national title game may not seem likely, but as seen last year, it is very much on the table and could potentially break national TV ratings records for college football if it were to happen. The season is still over a month away, but if the Wolverines and Buckeyes head into the bowl season with 11-1 records or better, keep an eye on a potential colossal national title matchup.
