This week, it was announced that Michigan Wolverines football head coach Jim Harbaugh has been named to the Dodd Trophy watch list ahead of the 2023 college football season. The Dodd Trophy is one of the most prestigious awards that a coach can earn; it is given to the coach whose program represents “scholarship, leadership, and integrity.”

Jim Harbaugh has done an impressive job as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football program. During his 8-season tenure, Harbaugh has compiled a head-turning 74-25 overall record, including six ranked finishes, five 10-win seasons, two Big Ten titles, and two College Football Playoff berths. In 2021, he was named college football’s coach of the year, and last fall, he led the Maize and Blue to a program record-breaking 13 wins in a single season.

While Harbaugh’s prowess on the gridiron has been nothing short of impressive so far, his work off the football field has been noted and praised as well. From marching with his players in 2020 to ensuring his team is academically sound, Jim Harbaugh and his program appear to be one of the top teams on the field and in the classroom. This week, the Dodd Trophy watch list was released, with Harbaugh making the cut.

What is the Dodd Trophy?

“Named for legendary Georgia Tech coach Bobby Dodd, The Dodd Trophy was established in 1976 to honor the FBS football coach whose program represents three pillars of success: Scholarship, Leadership and Integrity. The award honors the coach of a team with a successful season on the field and equally as important, stresses the importance of academic excellence and desire to give back to the community,” says the Dodd Trophy website.
