ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Stadium, affectionately known as “The Big House,” was host to one of the biggest college football games in the history of the sport this afternoon. All said and done, for the third year in a row, the Wolverines got the better of the Buckeyes, with Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore leading the way to an impressive and gritty 30-24 victory over Ryan Day and Ohio State. With the win, Moore earned his first top-5 victory as a head coach — something that is a bit harder to come by than you’d expect.
Ohio State win ties Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore with Ryan Day in two key areas
Sherrone Moore is now 4-0 as Michigan’s head coach, earning wins over Bowling Green, Penn State, Maryland, and now Ohio State throughout the course of the 2023 season. With Jim Harbaugh likely returning next week, Moore’s time as head Michigan football coach is likely over — for now — however, he first earned an impressive top-5 victory over the Buckeyes.
With his win comes a shocking stat: Sherrone Moore is now tied with Ohio State coach Ryan Day for wins over CFP top-5 teams, as well as wins in “The Game.” Mind you, he has only seen action in one matchup against a top-5 team and against the Buckeyes.
It’s also worth noting that there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding what comes next for Michigan football under Jim Harbaugh, though if Moore’s four-game trial period as head coach was any indication, it appears that the Wolverines may already have their next head man waiting in the wings.
On the other hand, people are already calling for Ryan Day to be on the hot seat as Ohio State’s head coach following his third straight loss against Michigan football, likely dropping the Buckeyes from CFP contention this season.
