Last weekend, right before the Wolverines’ biggest game of the 2023 season so far, the Big Ten Conference stepped in and suspended Jim Harbaugh from the sideline for the final three games of the 2023 regular season. In his place on Saturday was a beloved face in Ann Arbor: Michigan football OC Sherrone Moore, who shinned bright during his second game as Michigan’s head coach this fall, leading the Maize and Blue to an impressive two-score win over a top-10 Penn State team in Beaver Stadium. With Harbaugh out for the time being, ESPN host Stephen A Smith — like others at ESPN — needed a new Michigan-related target and chose to bash Moore on national TV on Tuesday.
Michigan football OC Sherrone Moore has Wolverines fans buzzing with win over Penn State
This weekend could be a huge one for Michigan football, seeing as the Wolverines are ranked No. 3 in the nation right now with a 10-0 record. Against Maryland on Saturday, Michigan could improve to 11-0 heading into next week’s Ohio State game for the second season in a row, and — perhaps more importantly — Michigan could become the first program to ever hit 1,000 wins all-time.
There is a court appeal on Friday where the University of Michigan football program will argue its case against the Big Ten Conference in front of a judge — if U-M wins, Jim Harbaugh will be back on the sidelines. If not, Michigan football OC Sherrone Moore will continue his reign as head coach of the Wolverines this Saturday in hopes of improving to 3-0 on the season.
Following his impressive win over Penn State — a game that he was named head coach for just hours before kickoff — Sherrone Moore gave a heartfelt and emotional interview with FOX Sports.
Of course, ESPN host Stephen A Smith hates Moore’s post-game interview
As tears came down and the passion shone through, ESPN host Stephen A Smith and others appeared to lock onto their weekly Maize and Blue target. Yesterday, Paul Finebaum was critical of Moore, and today, it was Smith’s turn on First Take.
“This is embarrassing. I’m going to just say it,” ESPN commentator Stephen A Smith said of Sherrone Moore and his post-game interview following the Penn State win. “What the hell are you crying for? I wasn’t waiting for him to say, ‘That’s my quarterback. That’s my team.’ I didn’t know what the hell was going on. I’m like, what the hell is that? What are you crying for? It makes no sense whatsoever. You won a game, and you act like the man was fired. You act like the man just lost everything. He was suspended for three games. He’s still allowed to be around the team all week long. He just ain’t there on the Saturday (when) they’re playing football.”
Outside noise doesn’t matter — Michigan football just wants to win more football games
Now, while ESPN and Smith can be as critical as they want of Michigan football, and it’s clear that Sherrone Moore is getting the true Michigan head coaching experience with analysts bashing him right now, the story is a bit different in Ann Arbor. Moore’s speech after the Penn State game has the Wolverines’ fan base buzzing about how passionate he is for the game, the players, and the University of Michigan.

This weekend, even if Jim Harbaugh is able to return, the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator will be back in action in hopes of leading Michigan football to an 11-0 start before facing the No. 1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes next weekend.
