Another Michigan football transfer admits to admissions issues

The University of Michigan and its athletic programs have a tough relationship with the transfer portal due to constant battles with transfer credits. The school is known for credits being hard to move in or out — including for regular, non-athlete students — which has hindered the Wolverines in the portal thus far. Shortly after Myles Hinton admitted to credit issues when coming from Stanford, Michigan football transfer linebacker Ernest Hausmann said more of the same happened to him as well.

Michigan football transfer linebacker had battles with admissions

Today, we were able to meet with Michigan football transfer linebacker Ernest Hausmann, who was the top transfer portal commit in Jim Harbaugh’s 2023 class. While Hausmann stood out with Nebraska as a true freshman starter in 2022, he decided it was time for a change at the end of the year and promptly picked Ann Arbor, MI, as his landing spot.

That said, his experience with Michigan football and the transfer portal came at a cost — Hausmann says he lost around half of his credits, though it did not deter him from committing to the Wolverines.

“Yeah, unfortunately,” Ernest Hausmann said when asked if he had any issues with the Michigan admissions office (in regards to credits) while in the transfer portal. “About half of my credits transferred over … I knew transferring into a school, it was gonna be give or take. I was ahead with my credits, being an early enrollee. I knew being in the portal was going to set that backtrack. But I also knew that education at Michigan is going to be much more important that I’ll be able to make up for all the loss.”

Ernest Hausmann seems thrilled with his choice to join Michigan football; however, he left his home in Nebraska to play for the Wolverines. He gave some insight into that experience as well earlier this evening.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, by all means,” Hausmann said. “We have family down there in Nebraska, also all the relationships I was able to build there from high school. … It was never an easy decision, but at the end of the day, I have to make the best decision for myself moving forward, and I knew coming to Michigan was gonna be the best for me.”

Ernest Hausmann is the next man up at both Mike and Will (linebacker spots) and will be getting a ton of reps throughout the coming season. Keep an eye on No. 15 as he continues to impress, earn more reps, and help lead the Wolverine defense throughout his sophomore season this fall.
