It has been nearly three decades since the Michigan Wolverines last won the Rose Bowl game, which eventually led to Lloyd Carr’s team being crowned national champions by the AP. On New Year’s Day, that could all change as Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy is about to lead his Wolverines against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a College Football Playoff semi-final matchup at the Rose Bowl, which will send one of the two blue-blood programs to the national title game. Ahead of the game, some new gear was unveiled for McCarthy, which he will wear against Bama in January 1.

Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy will debut incredible new cleats in Rose Bowl

New Year’s Day is bound to be massive for Michigan football, which will be facing the Alabama Crimson Tide and Nick Saban in the Rose Bowl (CFP) for a shot at the national championship game. JJ McCarthy, the Wolverines’ junior quarterback who has led his team to a pair of Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff berths while compiling an impressive 25-1 overall record as a starter during his college career thus far, will be making his second CFP start on Jan 1.

This week, not long before Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy and his Wolverines take the field against Alabama, the junior QB unveiled some head-turning new gear: a custom pair of Jordan-brand Rose Bowl cleats (below).

These impressive Rose Bowl cleats were painted by Jada From The Block LLC (custom shoe and cleat painting) and are almost as legendary as this matchup itself. While it’s not a major change, look for the new cleats when JJ McCarthy and Michigan football take the field against Alabama in arguably the biggest game of the Jim Harbaugh era.
