Over the weekend, former Michigan football QB Cade McNamara — who was a Big Ten title-winner and team captain for the Wolverines — went down with an injury against Michigan State. The Hawkeyes eventually beat the Spartans by 10 points, yet McNamara’s injury was still the top priority for Iowa, which has little quarterback depth to begin with. Today, new reports surfaced, stating that the ex-Wolverine will likely miss the remainder of the year due to his injury.
Former Michigan football QB expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season
Cade McNamara saw his ups and downs with Michigan football, though is still largely liked by Michigan’s fan base. Why? Well, he was a team captain and led the Wolverines to a 12-2 season back in 2021 — a year that changed the program for the better.
McNamara helped Michigan win a Big Ten title and appear in the CFP, both things that he was likely looking to do with the Iowa Hawkeyes this fall. That said, due to a mid-game injury against Michigan State over the weekend, it doesn’t sound like that is going to happen.
During fall camp, McNamara injured his leg — something that we also reported on back in August when it first happened. It is not yet entirely clear what happened to the former Michigan football star against MSU, or if it is connected to his camp injury; however, it was a lower-body injury that removed him from the game against the Spartans.
Through five games with Iowa, Cade McNamara completed 51% of his passes for over 500 yards, four touchdowns, and a trio of interceptions.
