On Monday, Michigan rising sophomore tight end Colston Loveland announced a brand new NIL partnership with a Michigan-based car dealer. Loveland joins a few other Wolverines — including quarterback JJ McCarthy — as an NIL partner of the Randy Wise Automotive Team. The partnership was announced via his Twitter earlier this week:
Loveland inks deal after standout freshman season
This fall, there is a good chance that rising sophomore tight end Colston Loveland will take over as Michigan’s top tight end. Despite being a true freshman last year, Loveland was thrown into a significant role after the Wolverines’ tight end room saw a lot of injuries — notably to Luke Schoonmaker and Erick All.
A season ago, the 6-5, 237 lbs tight end hauled in 16 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Colston Loveland showed some serious star potential as a starter en route to earning Michigan’s offensive and co-special teams rookie of the year and his first varsity letter. Loveland appeared in all 14 of Michigan’s games throughout 2022.
Loveland’s two biggest catches came in two of Michigan’s biggest games of the year: its 45-23 win over Ohio State and its 43-22 win over Purdue in the Big Ten title game. Loveland hauled a massive 45-yard touchdown pass in Columbus and a 25-yard touchdown pass the weekend after in the title game.
Expectations are high, but Colston Loveland is ready
In 2023, some big things are expected from Michigan football. After defeating Ohio State twice in a row, winning back-to-back Big Ten titles, and knocking on the door of a National Championship game berth twice, the Wolverines could have their best roster on paper of the Harbaugh era.
A third-straight conference title is almost expected at this point, and the nation will be looking to see if Jim Harbaugh and Co. will be able to overcome their postseason woes finally. Colston Loveland will be a crucial piece of the puzzle this fall if the Wolverines are to compete for a Big Ten and National title come December and January.
