Monday afternoon, Josh Henschke of Maize & Blue Review reported that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and former Wolverine quarterback Brian Griese have been in talks about Michigan’s Qb coach vacancy.

Is Brian Griese returning to Ann Arbor?

According to Henschke’s report, sources confirmed that the two Michigan football legends are discussing the possibility of bringing another former Wolverine onto Harbaugh’s staff.

Right now, the Wolverines have an opening at quarterback coach after firing former co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Wiess at the end of last week. Weiss was released amidst a university-led investigation into computer access crimes, which occurred late in December of 2022.

Who is Brian Griese?

For Michigan football fans, Griese is a household name. Despite not being the largest, fastest, or most-talented quarterback during his time with the Wolverines, Griese led Michigan football to a 12-0 season in 1997 — it is Michigan’s 11th and most recent National Championship in football.

Following his time in Ann Arbor, Griese led a 11-year NFL Career, primarily with the Denver Broncos, before returning and heading to the announcer’s booth.

Michigan football boasts a few other notable U-M alumni on its coaching staff right now, namely Jim Harbaugh (QB), Denard Robinson (QB), and Mike Hart (RB). From the looks of things, Jim Harbaugh is looking to add yet another notable Michigan alum to his staff: Wolverine football legend Brian Griese.

Nothing is set in stone, and we are not sure that Griese is interested in the position, though this will be a story to keep an eye on this offseason.
