Since Mel Tucker was given notice of MSU’s intent to fire him, the nation has been talking about who the Spartans will hire as a replacement. Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore — the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator — has been linked to the Michigan State opening numerous times, most recently by ESPN analyst Greg McElroy, who then explained why Moore could be a good fit.

ESPN adds buzz to Michigan football offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore to fill the MSU head coach position

This weekend’s top priority for Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore will be defeating Rutgers for the Wolverines’ Big Ten opener. As strange as it may be to think about, Mel Tucker won’t be Michigan State’s coach next year, and Moore is being talked about as a top replacement candidate that the Spartans may want to consider.

ESPN analyst Greg McElroy recently explained why Sherrone Moore should be considered by Michigan State football next year.

“Another one that might be in consideration is Sherrone Moore,” McElroy said. “He’s 37 years old. He was at Central Michigan for a little while and then went to Michigan in 2018 and has now become the OC. He’s put together an incredible offensive line contingent there, in winning the Joe Moore Award back-to-back years the last couple years.”

For now, Sherrone Moore and Michigan football are locked into the 2023 season and winning a national championship. That said, when the time comes for Michigan State to name a new head coach, keep an eye on the Spartans’ kicking the tires on the Wolverines’ impressive offensive coordinator.
