After Week 1 of the 2023 season, the Michigan football national title odds pinned the Wolverines as top 3 contenders to win it all this year. That said, with Alabama losing to Texas over the weekend, the Maize and Blue are on the rise once again, now ranking as the 2nd-most-likely team to claim a title this fall.

New Michigan football national title odds — Wolverines move up to No. 2

Michigan football did not have the best odds of winning it all heading into the season; however, after a few shake-ups, the Wolverines are now the second-most-likely team to win the national championship by season’s end, per Vegas Insider. Right now, the Maize and Blue have +500 odds (+450 on FanDuel) to win the national title — the only team with better odds is the Georgia Bulldogs (+250).

Right below Michigan football is the Ohio State Buckeyes, who have +900 odds (+1000 on FanDuel, +1100 on PointsBet). The Penn State Nittany Lions — who have the 7th-best odds — are the third and final Big Ten football program among the top 10 in this week’s updated odds.

Over the past two seasons, Michigan football has appeared in the College Football Playoff twice, yet fell short in both semi-final games — something that the Wolverines will be looking to change this year. As of right now, there appear to only be two major matchups that the Maize and Blue need to win to get back to the Big Ten title game and CFP: at Penn State and vs. Ohio State. Both of these games are slated for mid/late November of this year.

While these odds are favorable for Michigan football, the ESPN Football Power Index rankings are not too high on the Wolverines, pinning them at the bottom of the top 10 in this week’s update.
