The Wolverines have several players heading to the NFL Draft later this year, and while most of them are projected to go in the later rounds, former Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy is a potential first-round pick. ESPN recently released a new two-round mock draft and McCarthy is on the rise, falling among the top 15 picks.

ESPN has new prediction for Michigan football star JJ McCarthy in the 2024 NFL Draft

Jim Harbaugh recently predicted that JJ McCarthy will be QB1 in the coming NFL Draft — in other words, he believes that McCarthy is the top quarterback in the 2024 draft class. While others may not share that belief, it’s hard to argue against McCarthy’s 27-1 overall record as a starter, his three Big Ten titles, a National Championship ring, and being Michigan’s first-ever Big Ten QB of the Year winner.

While ESPN doesn’t have JJ McCarthy as the No. 1 quarterback this year like Harbaugh does, the Michigan football legend is still being projected as a first-round NFL Draft pick, even being pinned as a top-15 pick in their latest two-round mock draft. In fact, they have the Las Vegas Raiders, who are in need of a quarterback, taking McCarthy with the No. 13 pick, making him QB5 behind names like Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Caleb Williams, and others.

It’s worth noting that, if the Raiders take JJ McCarthy with the 13th pick, the former Michigan football quarterback will face off against his old head coach when the Raiders face Jim Harbaugh and the LA Chargers next season. That could be an electric matchup if these projections pan out in a few months.
