Today, the Michigan football coaching staff will command the No. 3 Wolverines (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) against a solid Maryland Terrapins squad (6-4, 3-4 Big Ten) in a road matchup in College Park, MD. For offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, today’s game will serve as a solid test — their final battle before next week’s Ohio State game — without Jim Harbaugh. This morning, Moore appeared on ESPN College GameDay to explain how the work has been divided.

Sherrone Moore has been an outstanding offensive coordinator for Michigan football over the past two seasons, though this fall, he has proven to be a solid head coach as well. Heading into today’s game at Maryland, Moore is 2-0 as head coach in place of Jim Harbaugh, who has now been suspended twice. Moore’s most recent win was nothing short of impressive: a two-score victory over a top-10 Penn State team at Beaver Stadium.

But Sherrone Moore is not alone on the sideline today, and the Michigan football coaching staff has all hands on deck to call the game. Here is what he said ahead of the game of himself, Jesse Minter, and more.

“The big thing is that it’s a big, collaborative effort. When the defense is up, we allow Jesse (Minter) and their staff to really take full control of what’s going on,” Moore said on Saturday. “And if there’s any big decisions to be made, I’ll make them.

“I’ll operate with the offense,” Sherrone Moore added. “Jesse will handle the defense. And any final calls, final decisions, I’ll handle,” Moore said. “But it’s a big, collaborative effort as a staff.”

Final test before Ohio State week

Even without Jim Harbaugh, Michigan football has some of the best coaches and players in America and should be able to handle their business against Maryland this afternoon before shifting focus to Ohio State in the coming week.
