Ahead of the 2023 season, Michigan football defender Will Johnson, arguably the team’s top defensive impact player, underwent surgery. Today, an injury update was given, stating that Johnson is on the road to recovery and is approaching being 100% healthy for the coming season.

Michigan football defender on the road to recovery, per newest injury update

This year’s Michigan football defense will need to be stronger than ever to lead the program to its third-straight Big Ten title, College Football Playoff appearance, and perhaps even more. For the Maize and Blue, keeping star defender Will Johnson healthy is a crucial step in accomplishing these goals — as seen in years past, injuries can completely shake up the locker room and derail a season if the Wolverines aren’t careful.

That said, it sounds like Will Johnson and Michigan football are in a good spot when it comes to his offseason injury rehab.

“I’m getting closer. I don’t know exactly what day or when I’ll be fully going, but it’s coming soon,” Johnson said, per SB Nation. “I’m just taking it one day at a time to see where I’m at when fall camp comes and to see where I’m at when the first game comes … My goal is to be — game one — be 100 percent, and feel like I can lock down any receiver, so I just got to get back to that feeling and get there as soon as I can.”

Will Johnson looking to lead Michigan to a national title

On offense, Michigan football needs players like Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards to be at 100 percent. On defense, the same holds true for cornerback Will Johnson and other top performers, who will look to lead the Maize and Blue to a national title in the coming months.
