Is this offseason the last time that Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football will do the NFL go-round?

So far, national-title-winning Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh has interviewed with two NFL teams this offseason since the 2023-24 season came to a close. Still, despite the fact that Harbaugh has shown a lot of interest in making a return to the league over the past few seasons, Yahoo Sports insider Dan Wetzel believes that it’s now or never for the famed head coach — either he leaves now or sticks it out with the University of Michigan.

After going 15-0 and winning a National Championship — breaking a long title drought for the Wolverines — Jim Harbaugh is a hot commodity for both the University of Michigan and the NFL. Still, insider Dan Wetzel believes that if Harbaugh stays in Ann Arbor heading into 2024, he will remain with the school for the long haul.

“I kind of feel like if Jim Harbaugh can’t get an NFL job this year, it’s not going to happen,” Wetzel said on the Dan Patrick Show. “If you’re Michigan — look okay, we’ll pay (Harbaugh). We’ll give you some stuff. We’ll protect you. We’ve been behind you all the way but to just walk away from him, they’re not ready to do that and you know, that’s just that’s just the situation he’s in. 15-0 does a lot for your juice on campus.”

Only time will tell from here

Of course, as Wetzel alluded to, Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh still have to deal with NCAA investigations into the sign-stealing scandal and recruiting violations. If Harbaugh is to head back to the NFL, where he once thrived with the San Francisco 49ers over a decade ago, no one is quite sure where that leaves the investigations heading into next season.

For now, it appears that the NFL has an interest in Jim Harbaugh, though Michigan football does as well, and only time will tell where the 60-year-old coach will end up come next fall.
