Earlier today, for the first time since the Wolverines’ post-game Monday presser after the ECU win, Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh had a chance to speak with the media. There, the 9th-year Michigan coach was asked about the recent Mel Tucker news, which has taken the nation (especially the state of Michigan) by storm as of late. While Harbaugh did not directly comment on the Tucker situation, his response was perfect for the situation and the information available.

Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh has classy response to Mel Tucker question on Monday

Jim Harbaugh and Mel Tucker coach two of the premier programs in the Big Ten. On top of that, they are a part of one of the best rivalries in college sports between two top-ranked universities. That said, it sounds like Tucker might be done at Michigan State — Jim Harbaugh was asked about his thoughts on the situation earlier today.

“I don’t know a thing about it,” Jim Harbaugh stated when asked about the Mel Tucker suspension today. “I know Brenda Tracy, she’s been — I respect her a lot. She’s done really good things (and) talked to our team. As far as (the Mel Tucker news), not in a position to to weigh in on it. Have no understanding or facts of the matter.”

At the end of the day, given the limited knowledge that anyone really has right now, many believe that Harbaugh’s response to the Tucker question was perfect for the situation. For the time being, especially, it feels best to let this all play out on its own — still, Harbaugh rightfully threw in his thoughts on Brenda Tracy, who is the alleged victim of the harassment.

Mel Tucker official statement on the allegations and investigation

Brenda Tracy, a rape survivor and sexual assault advocate, accuses Mel Tucker of a number of unwanted sexual advances. Today, Mel Tucker released a statement on the matter, claiming that Tracy’s allegations are “completely false.” Below is the full statement from Michigan State’s 4th-year head coach, who is believed to have coached his final game in East Lansing.

It’s worth noting that — while Jim Harbaugh has nothing to do with Mel Tucker and Michigan State being in hot water — the term “Coach Harbaugh” was used in Tucker’s official statement (paragraph two).
