Jim Harbaugh: ‘super excited’ about new QB coach Kirk Campbell

Earlier this year, former Michigan co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss was fired amidst a police investigation. Now, the Wolverines have brought on an exciting addition to their 2023 coaching staff: new QB coach Kirk Campbell, who served as an offensive analyst a season ago. Additionally, the other half of Michigan’s 2022 co-offensive play-calling duo, Sherrone Moore, was promoted to full-time offensive coordinator.

Jim Harbaugh praises new QB coach Kirk Campbell

On Thursday afternoon, Jim Harbaugh had his spring practice presser — there, Harbaugh had high praise for his new QB coach Kirk Campbell:

“Yeah, super excited about Kirk. Yeah, he’s a fantastic coach. He was with us all last year as an analyst and yeah, just gained the respect of everybody on the staff. And appreciate him,” Harbaugh said. “He was somebody that was offered a full-time staff job at a couple other colleges and wanted to be here and it’s worked out really well for him. (Glad) that we’re able to elevate Kirk. He just thinks fast, he thinks fast on his feet. Tremendous work ethic studying the game. Just really excited about what he can bring our football team.”

Kirk Campbell has essential task on Michigan’s offense

This fall, new QB coach Kirk Campbell will be tasked with handling rising junior quarterback (and former five-star prospect), J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy comes into this season with Heisman-caliber expectations, and will be a critical part of the puzzle if the Michigan Wolverines expect to bring home a national title for the first time since 1997.

Seeing as McCarthy is now an upper classmen and has a full starting season under his belt, much more will be expected of him this fall. It is up to new QB coach kirk Campbell to keep McCarthy’s development in check and make sure the Wolverines’ star is ready to lead UM to the promised land in just a few short months.
