Josh Gattis was once the Broyles Award winner while a Michigan football assistant coach but it’s clear that he didn’t leave Ann Arbor on the best of terms. Gattis, who is now an assistant coach for Maryland, was the Michigan football offensive coordinator from 2019-2021. The Wolverines won the Big Ten championship after the 2021 season and that’s when Gattis was named the best assistant coach in college football.
Josh Gattis goes on rant, accuses Michigan football of violations
However, the same offseason, after rumors about Jim Harbaugh leaving Michigan football for the NFL were rampant and it became clear that Gattis wasn’t going to replace Harbaugh, under any circumstances, Gattis left to be the offensive coordinator of the Miami Hurricanes. He was then fired after one season on the job.
After Xavier Worthy, a former Michigan football signee broke the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine on Sunday, fans aimed their anger at Gattis. There have been lots of rumors about Gattis, which he continues to deny, that fans believe played a role in Worthy ending up at Texas, instead of Michigan. Gattis saw what fans were saying and responded on X. The former Michigan assistant didn’t just deny the rumors about himself, but he also accused the Wolverines of NCAA violations.
Former Michigan football assistant responds to rumors
“It’s time this Bs ends. The slander has crossed the line for too long,” Gattis wrote on Twitter. “Don’t make excuses for admission…. Or how about look into being on campus during covid. Want to keep on?”
“Sounds like you need others to speak for you,” Gattis wrote. “I’ve taken the high road too long while you & others slander my integrity & family.”
“Ask why Admissions said they wouldn’t require a ACT but denied mid year because of a ACT 4 days before enroll. Do you want the violations too? Emails? No bag just receipts! The rival reporters know the truth…. Go dig them up for the NCAA. Have fun but leave my name, (and my) family out of your mouth,” Gattis wrote.
Gattis blamed admissions for the Wolverines missing out on Worthy. The wide receiver wasn’t allowed to enroll early and eventually asked out of his letter of intent before going to Texas. He’s now being talked about as a first-round pick after the 4.21 in the 40.
