It might not make as much news but it’s always important to get a committed recruit back on campus, which is what Michigan football will do at the end of the month with its recruiting BBQ.

A number of commitments in the 2025 class will be visiting for the recruiting BBQ. One of them will be four-star quarterback commitment Carter Smith according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider.

Smith is ranked No. 160 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s ranked 13th among quarterbacks and is a dangerous dual-threat option. I know Michigan football fans are stoked about the commitment of top-100 QB Brady Hart in 2026, but don’t sleep on Smith.

I have a feeling that he’s going to wow scouts this fall and it won’t shock me at all if the 2025 Michigan football commitment winds up in the top 100 when all is said and done.

The visit by Smith is important because it shows that he’s solid. There hasn’t been any indication otherwise, but Smith is the most important 2025 commit in my mind, so it’s good to see him scheduled to visit again.

Brady Hart to visit for Michigan football recruiting BBQ

Speaking of Hart, Marich reports that the 6-foot-4 quarterback will also visit Michigan football for the recruiting BBQ. Hart’s presence is even more important. There are going to be some key targets in 2025 such as Andrew Marsh and Jerome Myles, but the recruiting BBQ will be focused more on 2026 and 2027.

That’s where Hart will come in. Michigan football has the chance to build its 2026 class around a top-100 quarterback and unlike in 2025, the Wolverines won’t be behind the 8-ball due to a new head coach and a bunch of staff turnover.

Michigan is trending toward a top-10 class in 2025, but the 2026 class could be truly elite and it all starts with Brady Hart.
