LOS ANGELES — Last week, Michigan football quarterback signee Jadyn Davis officially inked his NLI, making his commitment to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines official ahead of Michigan’s CFP bout against Alabama. Today, we heard from current U-M quarterback JJ McCarthy, who had a lot of praise for Davis, further creating a wave of positive buzz for the crown jewel of the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class.

On the final day of March, Jadyn Davis committed to play for the University of Michigan football program — it was a massive win for the Wolverines, seeing as he was a five-star QB prospect at the time. Since then, Davis has dropped down to four-star status, though remains among the nation’s top 100 overall players and top 10 quarterbacks.
This week, Jadyn Davis is getting his first official reps with Michigan football as it practices for the Rose Bowl game, which pits the No. 1 Wolverines against the No. 4 Crimson Tide on Monday afternoon. Seeing as Davis and JJ McCarthy seem to have a special relationship, we heard more from Michigan’s current QB about Davis earlier today.
“Extremely, extremely cool,” JJ McCarthy said of Jadyn Davis. “I haven’t been in this position where I’ve been the starter for two years and guys are coming in and just being able to have that relationship with such a great guy and great family. It clicked from the start. Just a tremendous athlete and, a tremendous thrower of the football. I trained with him a couple of times this past summer, and the sky is the limit for him. Just such a great leader, such a great teammate.
“I Just have so many good things to say about him, but I can’t wait for him to show you guys.”

Even if JJ McCarthy goes to the NFL after this season, it is unlikely that Michigan football will hand the keys over to a true freshman next fall — JJ was likely a more college-ready prospect, and even he had to wait a year behind Cade McNamara. On top of that, starting an 18-year-old in the Big Ten is never a great idea, hence why it is hardly done.
That said, the staff clearly thinks that Davis could be the future of the Michigan football program, and JJ McCarthy seems to share a similar stance.
