In the midst of a flurry of questions about the sign-stealing scandal and NCAA investigation into his program, Jim Harbaugh was able to address a major injury during his Monday press conference. Senior Michigan football running back Kalel Mullings, who has been sidelined for a few weeks now, will likely be making his return to action this weekend against the Purdue Boilermakers.

Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football had a noisy bye week last weekend, though it sounds like the week off was beneficial from an injury standpoint. When asked about the injury status of RB Kalel Mullings — the Wolverines’ third-string and short-yardage back — Harbaugh says that it is highly likely that Mullings returns to action against Purdue this weekend.

“It’s trending that way,” Jim Harbaugh said when asked about Kalel Mullings’ injury during his Monday press conference. “Highly likely.”

Jim Harbaugh was also asked about Mullings and his injury during Monday night’s episode of ‘Inside Michigan Football’ with Jon Jansen.

“It’s looking that way,” Jim Harbaugh said. “It’s trending that way. Like — highly likely. I don’t guarantee anything, but highly (likely that Kalel Mullings will play).”

While Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards will still be the top two running backs for Michigan football against Purdue this weekend, Kalel Mullings and his unique skill set play a major role in Sherrone Moore’s offensive system. Having him back this weekend — and, more importantly, for games like Penn State and Ohio State — will be huge for the Maize and Blue.
