This afternoon, a major Michigan football commit received substantial news. 2024 defensive line prospect Ted Hammond — the Wolverines’ most recent commit — has been upgraded to a four-star across all college football recruiting platforms.
Previously, Hammond was only listed as a four-star by the Rivals Network, which also graded him as a 5.8/6.0 via their “RivalsRating” system. Today, the other two major recruiting platforms — 247 Sports and On3 — bumped Hammond up to four stars as well.
Ted Hammond deserves to be a four-star
Ted Hammond — a product of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, OH — is Michigan’s newest commit. He stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs around 260 lbs, according to 247 Sports. According to all major platforms, Hammond is a four-star and among the best defensive end prospects in the nation.
247 Sports lists Hammond as a composite four-star, ranking him as the No. 344 player nationally, No. 30 defensive line prospect, and No. 13 player in Ohio in the 2024 class. On3 has similar rankings for Hammond — they list him as the No. 32 defensive line prospect and the No. 16 player in Ohio for the 2024 class.
Hammond’s commitment is huge for Michigan’s football
Since Hammond’s commitment to Jim Harbaugh and Co., the Wolverines now boast a top-10 2024 recruiting class. After signing a subjectively weak class (for Michigan’s standards) during the 2023 cycle, Harbaugh and the Wolverines need to get back on track regarding getting the talent through the door.
We knew Hammond was talented, and frankly, the numbers of stars he has changes little (if anything) about the player the Wolverines are getting. Still, it is nice to see a Michigan football commit getting the respect that he deserves.
