Today, new Michigan football captain Kris Jenkins and others met with the media ahead of the coming 2023 season, which is just nine days away now. During his time at the podium, Jenkins raved about transfer portal center Drake Nugent, a new addition to the offensive line who is coming into Ann Arbor as a former Stanford star and team captain.

Michigan football captain Kris Jenkins is buzzing about Drake Nugent

Drake Nugent has seen a successful (yet unglamorous) college career thus far during his few seasons in the PAC-12. After standing out as a team captain with Stanford, Nugent was ready for a change and is now gunning for a starting role at center with the Wolverines. According to Michigan football captain Kris Jenkins, who was appointed as such this morning, this new transfer portal addition is standing out.

In fact, Jenkins was raving about Nugent throughout the afternoon, making many wonder if this new center could be Jim Harbaugh’s top transfer addition this year.

“Oh yeah, he’s a dog,” Michigan football captain Kris Jenkins said of new transfer portal center Drake Nugent. “He came in from day one, I like him. He’s a dog. From day one, he came in here as one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. The dude is a complete freak of an athlete. He’s done stuff that had me and Coach Herb mouth agape. He’s the type of dude who will strain to finish. He’s definitely a huge football IQ guy, and basically, his work ethic is unbelievable. From day one, he walked in here and got everybody’s respect. (He’s) Quick, and he’s been a guy who’s been constantly trying to represent the block M in the best way possible. So you’re definitely going to see him tear it up, and I’m really excited for him because he deserves it.”

What makes Drake Nugent stand out? According to Kris Jenkins, he is a “freak,” a “tank,” and more.

“With Drake, I can definitely hype him up because Drake, he’s huge,” Kris Jenkins stated. “He’s a tank. You can see him in there, just shirt off, getting ready to do 15 pullups in a row, no problem. You’re just completely baffled. He’s done, I think, 56 pushups when we did a pushup competition — completely baffling. The way he moves, he dang well might be faster than me; he runs well. You see him on the field, and he’s hard to miss. He definitely flies around, and you’re like, ‘yeah.’ Same with the whole O-line, but yeah, he’s definitely a freak as well.”

Even though Michigan football is losing former All-American center Olu Oluwatimi (via the 2023 NFL Draft), the Wolverines’ elite offensive line is clearly still in good hands. If you ask Michigan football captain Kris Jenkins, who is a freak of nature in his own right, this new transfer is going to be something special during his tenure in Ann Arbor.
