Today, Michigan football coach Kirk Campbell — the Wolverines’ new QB coach and Week 1 interim offensive play-caller — addressed the media ahead of Saturday’s matchup against UNLV. There, Campbell outlined his strong recruiting pitch, confidently stating his belief that no offense in America can prepare players for the NFL like the Wolverines’ can.

Michigan football coach has NFL-based recruiting pitch

Michigan football recruiting is doing well right now, currently boasting the 8th-ranked class nationally in the 2024 cycle (per the composite team rankings). Today, Michigan football coach Kirk Campbell explained his strong recruiting pitch — one that some may agree with and some may not.

“I don’t think there’s a better offense in the country that can prepare you to play on Sundays,” the Michigan football coach said, talking about his recruiting pitch for the Wolverines. “We’re under center, we’re running play-action, we’re running drop back game, we’re running empty. We do everything. I think that will speak for itself when we net results. Plus, we’re at the University of Michigan. There’s no better place to play. …(All recruits are) different,” Kirk Campbell continued. “Do you reach that individual to create that relationship? I’m myself, and I have conversations with them about life, about their family, and then football comes secondary to that. I want to get to know the player.”

More from Kirk Campbell on the Michigan offense

This personalized offense extends all the way to Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy, who had an incredible game on Saturday against East Carolina. According to Kirk Campbell, the Wolverines’ offense is designed to give McCarthy the room to do what he does best — make big plays.

“We have given (JJ McCarthy) a lot more leeway and opportunity to have a better understanding of defenses,” he began, “to help with protection. The third and 11 that he ripped that dig to (Cornelius Johnson), he changed the protection for us and got us a nice play. We often change plays in and out of what’s the right looks. He’s invested in that area, and it’s only going to help the growth of our offense and him. We’re putting them in those situations to be able to do that.”
