Last month, a new report was published by Yahoo Sports, which stated that the TCU Horned Frogs were warned about the Wolverines’ alleged sign-stealing tactics ahead of their College Football Playoff semi-final matchup in the Fiesta Bowl. Today, Michigan football coach Jesse Minter — the team’s second-year defensive coordinator — was asked about the report and if it had an impact on the Wolverines’ 51-45 loss to the Frogs, who went on to fall in the national title game, 65-7 at the hands of Georgia.

The sign-stealing scandal has taken the national news cycle by storm over the past few weeks, and it is showing no signs of slowing down as Michigan football enters a crucial four-game stretch to close out the 2023 regular season. Today, we heard from Jesse Minter at Schembechler Hall, who was asked about the Yahoo report on TCU’s dummy signals.

“That was a long time ago, there were a lot of things that happened in that game that we had better control of than what we played,” Michigan football defensive coordinator Jesse Minter said on Wednesday afternoon. “So I’m not — I mean, they (TCU) totally outplayed us, you know? They outplayed us that day. We didn’t play to the best of our ability — we lost that game.”

While Jesse Minter did say that he wishes he — and other Michigan football coaches — could comment on the investigation and sign-stealing scandal, the rumors, and more, he is still unable to do so. That said, Minter was adamant that TCU simply outplayed Michigan last New Year’s Eve, leading to the Wolverines’ second-straight CFP loss.
