All fans are well aware that Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, who is in his 9th season with the Wolverines, has been suspended for three games so far this year. This weekend, however, the program legend will return to the sidelines for the team’s Big Ten opener against Rutgers. Earlier this week, Harbaugh addressed the media, breaking down his “new perspective” that he gained from watching the games.
Michigan football coach shares new perspective on college football and media
Jim Harbaugh is finally back after serving his quarter-season suspension, which sidelined him for the Wolverines’ games against East Carolina, UNLV, and Bowling Green. Ahead of this weekend’s matchup against Rutgers, the legendary Michigan football coach gave insight into his new perspective on the game that he gained from watching on TV.
“Just seeing things through a different lens, multiple things, really,” Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh said on the Big Ten Network. “But one I shared is just watching the shows like yours, watching the commentators doing the games, the different shows before and after the games, I never really see those. Just how good you guys are, how much you know. You report what you see and you know a lot of football. I just had a very good perspective of that.”
More insight from Jim Harbaugh
Jim Harbaugh, who is used to answering the media’s negative post-game questions, says there was more positive than he anticipated.
“And there are a lot of positives, just real truth that I enjoyed listening to and watching. I’m used to kinda, you play the game, it’s like being in a dentist chair getting root canal done on you for three hours. Have the postgame press conference, and you’re just kind of hit with all the, ‘what about this and this thing and this thing and this thing?’ And then the same thing on Monday, a list of the negatives. But I have a whole new perspective on that. You guys are really tremendous. Learned a lot just listening to some of the experts, and the fans are right on, too.”
This weekend, Jim Harbaugh will not be watching from home for the first time this year. Instead, he and his Michigan football team will be looking to cover a 24.5-point spread against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who historically have given Harbaugh some trouble under head coach Greg Schiano.
