Yesterday, Michigan football stumbled its way to a 25-point victory over Bowling Green under the lights at the Big House in Ann Arbor. Following the game, we got some key info from star players like JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, and more. Here are a few post-game notes on the Wolverines after a Week 3 victory.

Michigan football post-game notes: Week 3 victory over Bowling Green

1. JJ McCarthy updates ankle status

After being tackled from behind on one of his scrambles, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy appeared to have a limp — something that many fans noticed in person and on TV. Seeing as JJ’s ability to run the ball is a massive part of his game, this was concerning; however, after the Bowling Green win, McCarthy gave some good news.

“Yeah, (his ankle) is all good,” the junior Michigan football quarterback said after the game. Sounds like this isn’t a concern right now and shouldn’t limit the star QB against Rutgers next weekend.

2. Where is the offense looking to improve this week?

Star running back Blake Corum — who went over 100 yards and a few touchdowns yesterday — explained a few areas that the Wolverines are looking to improve in offensively this week.

“I think we can work on all around,” the Michigan football senior said. “The pass game,  the run game, the way we block. Just all around, I think we can always get better. And that’s what makes Michigan great. That’s what makes this team great. … So all around the offense — the passing game, run game, you name it — we need to work on it. And best believe we will.”

3. Wolverines hyped for Jim Harbaugh’s return

This weekend, for the first time since the Fiesta Bowl loss on New Year’s Eve in 2022, Michigan football will be led by 9th-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, who is now officially coming off of suspension. Seeing as Big Ten play, this is massive for the Wolverines.

“We’re excited to get Coach Harbaugh back,” Blake Corum said. “I know he’s fired up. I know he can’t wait.”

4. Kris Jenkins is a fan of the new stadium lights

Yesterday evening, for the first time ever, Michigan football debuted its new stadium lights, turning the Big House Maize and Blue many times throughout the Wolverines’ 31-6 victory. After the game, senior captain Kris Jenkins gave his thoughts.

“It was insane,” the Michigan football captain explained. “That was absolutely insane. They got us hyped. Every time they turned the lights off, it was goosebumps. You could even hear the crowd screaming every time they went off. So you know, it was insane. Definitely grateful to have those. Those are awesome.”

5. Michigan football got away with one during Cornelius Johnson’s touchdown catch

JJ McCarthy threw three interceptions yesterday evening — it was one of his worst games as a Wolverine thus far. In fact, on his touchdown pass to Cornelius Johnson, it appeared as if Bowling Green may have gotten a fourth; however, Johnson somehow came down with the bobbled ball. McCarthy gave more on the play after the game.

“It was definitely an ill-advised throw,” JJ McCarthy said. “But I saw the cornerback had a cast on, and I know I got one of the best receivers in the country down there with him, so I just gave him (Johnson) a chance.”
