Michigan Football Could Lose Multiple Commits In Near Future

Certain recruits are on the verge of changing their minds

Carter Smith, the quarterback of the Bishop Verot football team throws during the Class 2A-District 10 championship against Glades Central at Bishop Verot on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024. Smith broke Lee County's all-time passing record.

National signing day is just around the corner, and Michigan could have a top ten recruiting class. However, several commits have kept other schools in mind, and the Wolverines could get the short end of the stick.

As of late October, Michigan seemed to have a chance at landing LSU Commit and No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood to solve its quarterback issue. Following his visit to LSU over the weekend, Underwood reposted a photo on instagram that read: “#1 QB Likely to Decline Michigan’s $10.5M NIL Offer”. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Underwood appears to be staying a Tiger.

Michigan Commits Wavering

Michigan’s pursuit of Underwood came at the price of losing Carter Smith – the only quarterback committed in the 2025 class. Recruits are just a few weeks away from putting pen to paper, and some are reconsidering.

EJ Holland of On3 reported ($) that four-star safety Ivan Taylor is likely to flip to Alabama. Taylor was in Tuscaloosa recently, and On3’s recruiting prediction machine (RPM) gives Michigan less than a 1% chance to keep the defensive back.

Four-star tight end Andrew Olesh committed to Michigan over the summer, but Holland reported that Penn State and Oregon are still in the conversation. Olesh is reportedly concerned about the future of the quarterback, and even a possible post-season ban.

Four-star wide receiver Andrew Marsh is set to visit Washington this weekend, and they have reportedly been contacting him throughout the fall, trying to lure him with its “pass-happy” offense. Marsh has an 83.4% chance to remain a Wolverine according to the RPM.

Another four-star wide receiver could potentially decommit in Jacob Washington. Washington took a second visit to Missouri last weekend, and he’s reportedly concerned about Michigan’s addition of Jamar Browder, a receiver with a similar frame. Still, Washington has indicated to the Wolverines that he plans on staying.
