Michigan has had two weeks to sit with the ugliest offensive performance of the season. Penn State arrives with three straight losses and one of the Big Ten's most vulnerable run defenses.
Michigan has spent two weeks hearing about turnovers, offensive identity and a season that went from 3-0 to 3-2 in the span of eight days. Now there is nowhere left to hide behind the schedule or the lack of practice time.
Michigan has problems on offense. The Wolverines have struggled to run the ball consistently, the offensive line has been shuffled, Bryce Underwood took a major step backward against Minnesota, and Jason Beck's play calling has been under a microscope since the Iowa loss.

Michigan played its best offensive game of the season against Iowa and still found a way to leave the stadium with a loss. That makes the first road trip of the year less about proving Michigan can play good football and more about proving it can stop wasting it.
The Gophers are 3-1, just went into Washington and won, and have a quarterback playing with confidence in Drake Lindsey. They also have one of the most dangerous return games in the country. I still think Michigan is the better team, and I think Saturday looks more like a response than a hangover.
Michigan spent most of the offseason discussing its new wide receiver room, and who could break out behind its top two stars.
Four games into the season, Micah Simon has a very different problem. Getting those other receivers on the field.
There is no mystery in Kyle Whittingham’s current evaluation of Bryce Underwood.
Four weeks into the season, Michigan’s head coach sees a quarterback playing faster, seeing more, and trusting what is around him.
