The Michigan football defense is a major reason that the Wolverines are currently 9-0 overall and ranked No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. That said, this weekend, Jesse Minter’s defense will be given its first major test of the 2023 season: a road trip against No. 10 Penn State and former five-star QB Drew Allar. This evening, we heard from Nebraska transfer linebacker Ernest Hausmann, who says Allar is a great “game manager” and more ahead of Saturday’s top-10 bout in Happy Valley.

Drew Allar is in his first year as the full-time starter for James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions, and so far, he has his team among the nation’s top 10 teams. After losing to Ohio State by eight points earlier this fall, the Nittany Lions and their sophomore quarterback are looking to bounce back this weekend at home against No. 3 Michigan football.

Against Ohio State’s tough defense, Allar truly seemed to struggle for the first time this fall. Agianst Michigan’s defense, which is arguably better, he will be looking to right the ship.

“I think (Drew Allar) does a really good job of just managing the game,” Michigan football linebacker Ernest Hausmann said on Tuesday evening when asked about what Allar does that commands attention. “I think he does a fantastic job of just putting the ball in his playmakers hands and letting them do the work. I think he is a really good game manager — he gets the ball out of his hands really quickly so he kind of eludes the preassure a lot of times. He’s a really good game manager.”

Drew Allar has a massive frame and plenty of talent, though again, is yet to have a standout game against an elite defense. This weekend, despite the outside noise with the Big Ten, Jim Harbaugh, investigations, and more, the Wolverines’ defense will be looking to shut down this sophomore Penn State quarterback en reoute to a 10-0 start to the season for the second year in a row.
